Quickload is a great program, but it has had the field to itself for two decades and now it is dated. You can only buy it on a CD and most computers these days don't even have a CD drive. You have to pay 150 bucks for it and there are two other internal ballistic simulators which are just as good and (as noted below) are free! P-Max in particular is online so there are no operating system problems. Works on anything that has a browser, and anywhere you can get on the Internet. It is time QL had a 21st century facelift.
QuickLoad is a great program, but why is it only available on a CD? Why do you even have to pay for it? For two decades it was unchallenged on the market, but now there there are two free internal ballistics simulators which do the job just as well. As commented below one of them, P-Max, can even be used on online. So no problems with instability or operating system incompatibility. Save the $150 for some reloading equipment...
I've been using Quick load for several years now, on a Windows 10 machine and have never had a instability problem. Great program! Saves loads of time and for all practical purposes, you don't really need a reloading book. You can work up loads by comparing different powders and analyzing their performance. And, I too, have chronographed the loading results and, they too, were within 10-15 fps of what the program indicated. I personally will never buy another 30-40 dollar reloading manual again. Just keep up with the updates and any new powders or bullets will be listed. Now, in the spirit of fairness, my computer is NOT Windows 10 "pro". (Different version)
I have been using this for years. When utilized in conjunction with a chrongraph or doppler radar (MANDATORY) you can safely work up loads independently of reloading manuals. It also allows the prediction of ideal powder/cartridge/bullet combinations to save time, money and rifling in wasted range sessions. When working up loads for a .350 Rigby Magnum with a 270 gr North Fork bullet the predicted velocity was within 10 fps of actual velocity. This is a tool you can use in partnership with common sense to safely and efficiently predict performance and optimum component combinations.Just remember, Never exceed any of the parameters, i.e., max powder charge OR velocity. There is no free lunch.
Unstable as heII in Windows 7 Pro and Windows 10 Pro. I have been using it now for about 6 years. Also once NECO tells you the problem is you they ignore you. Waiting and looking for a replacement.
